Judy Boyer Burrell, native of Franklin, Michigan grew up loving horses and German Shepherds. Her under graduate studies were at the University of Michigan in Dearborn and Michigan State University. During summers she was horsemanship instructor at camps in rural Michigan.
At Michigan State University she majored in animal science with an emphasis on Swine Nutrition. Michigan State's College of Veterinary Medicine granted her a diploma in 1987. She then took employment at Sparta, Wisconsin as a mixed animal practitioner. Her border collie, Blue, accompanied her on calls. In 1988, she and Dallas married and settled in Preston, Minnesota. Her practices included clinics in Rushford, Houston, Stewartville as well as Preston.
Dr. Judy moved to Michigan with her family in 1992. During her years as a homeschooling mother of four, she continued her involvement with horses, goats, cats, dogs, cattle, pigs and even chickens as a 4-H leader. She coached the Missaukee County Goat Getters 4-H Club to several state placings in Skill-a-thon and Quiz bowl. She resumed veterinary practice when she and Dallas purchased Stoney Corners Veterinary Clinic. Bud is a true Michigander; born in Alpena, and grew up in the Flint/Flushing area, until her fathers’ business brought her family northward in 1974. She graduated from Houghton Lake High school in 1975. Bud has had many different careers, including waitressing for 10 years, working in the Houghton Lake Community schools , gardening with Friends Ministry, and finally joining Stoney Corners Vet Service. Bud enjoyed a few mission trips when she attended Merritt Methodist Church. She traveled to Kazakhstan, worked with the local church for two weeks, and left part of her heart there. Bud has also been on other mission trips, including working with Samaritans Purse after Hurricane Katrina. Bud enjoys her grandchildren, her 4 dogs , 4 cats, and gardening.
Jess is a born-and-raised Michigan native who moved to Oregon her freshman year of high school, and moved back to her home state in 2017. She earned her veterinary assistant certification from the Animal Behavioral College and is currently studying to be a certified veterinary technician. Once completed with the vet tech program, she hopes to attend Michigan State University to become a veterinarian. Jessica enjoys painting and anything to do with animals. She has a dog of her own and, in the future, hopes to have enough land to get horses again.
Ruth is originally from the Grand Rapids area and moved to McBain in the 70's. Ruth, together with her husband, Jack, have two children and seven grandchildren. Ruth has always enjoyed caring for and being with animals, and her menagerie includes dogs, cats, and horses. Spending time with her family and friends, riding her horses, kayaking, and camping are some of her hobbies. Ruth is excited to be part of the team at Stoney Corners Veterinary Service.
Ashley grew up in Cadillac, Michigan, until she moved to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, to earn her bachelor's degree in art and communication from Central Michigan University. During her time at CMU, she studied photography, painting, and competed on the CMU debate team. She moved back to Cadillac in 2017 to be closer to family. She does a little bit of everything around the clinic, and she loves animals of all kinds.
Haley is a Michigan Native who has a true passion for animals. She enjoys spending her time traveling, playing the guitar, and working with horses. Haley currently lives on and helps manage a horse farm and boarding facility. She works at the clinic during her breaks from school at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids. She is majoring in pre-veterinary with the hopes of one day being a large animal vet, specifically in equine medicine.
Rachel grew up in the McBain area. She studied in the agri-science program at the Wexford-Missaukee career technical school. She has worked with farm animals large and small for years and recently completed the pet grooming program at the Paragon School of Pet Grooming. She's excited to meet all of the grooming needs of your pets!
The clinic and animals are kept tidy by Ally! At home she has her favorite horse, DejaVu, a dog and four cats. Ally's school activities include basketball, volleyball and track. She enjoys spending time outdoors especially bow hunting. She is looking forward to a missions trip to the Dominican Republic.
